FEEDBACK

WEEK 2
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • Combine the sub-sub-topics of negative effects of microinteractions under the theme "Effects of Poor Microinteraction Design".
  • Relate to research questions while writing the discussion.
  • Revolve around the theme of "User Engagement" when writing about each microinteraction of the e-commerce websites in the second sub-topic.

WEEK 3
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • Begin 5.2 by stating RQ1 and combine the discussion of the purposes of microinteractions with 5.2 (Microinteractions and Purposes).
  • In the introduction to 5.3, address the e-commerce websites used for visual analysis.

WEEK 4
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • Cite the actual data of the survey such as percentage and participants' responses within the discussion to support each statement.
  • Start writing 5.3 to determine the pattern for discussing each subsection.

WEEK 5
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • Include the [sic] notation in the cited responses that contain grammar mistakes.
  • Well wrapped up for the positive effects of microinteractions in section 5.2.1.
  • Introduce the term “task abandonment” in the Introduction section for better clarification.
  • The discussion of the search features of the three websites in 5.3.1 is not comprehensive, and I should provide a detailed comparison of their search features.

WEEK 6
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • The intro to “task abandonment” is nicely linked to the importance of thoughtful microinteraction design and provides clear clarification.
  • The discussion of the importance of thoughtful microinteraction design is thorough, and supported by primary and secondary data.
  • The explanation of “duration and easing” might be slightly confusing. Relate it to microinteraction design with further elaboration regarding “Material Design 3”.

WEEK 7
TASK 1 Dissertation Draft
  • Refer to the dissertation as a "study" or "dissertation" instead of using the terms "research" or "paper" when mentioning it.
  • The conclusion is written clearly and thoroughly.
  • Complete the remaining sections of the dissertation.

WEEK 8
*Independent Learning Week

WEEK 9
TASK 3 Visual Design Publication
  • Idea #1 is more representative compared to Idea #2. It better aligns with the topic and requires less design work.
  • Idea #2 lacks clarity and needs more time to complete.
  • Proceed with idea #1.

WEEK 10
TASK 3 Visual Design Publication
  • Change the background colour to a lighter pink.
  • Adjust the paragraph alignment for a smoother flow.
  • The book design of each section is fine and well-aligned with the research.

WEEK 11
TASK 3 Visual Design Publication
  • Proceed to continue with the book design

WEEK 12
*Public holiday

WEEK 13
TASK 4 Research for Article Publication
  • The written paragraphs are fine.
  • Elaborate on the two sections of the questionnaire.
  • Proceed to finish the remaining parts.

WEEK 14
TASK 4 Research for Article Publication
  • If the findings and discussion exceed the word limit, leave the exceeding content.
  • The conclusion is fine, proceed to complete the remaining sections.
  • Include images and appendices.

REFLECTION

This module is the continuation of the Research Methodology module, where the heavy and lengthy part of this research was done. All we had to do in this module was to write the Discussion and Findings part. Initially, I was on track with my progress, but during the ILW I was burned out and stopped writing the Dissertation Draft. I also struggled with paraphrasing due to my limited writing skills and it is quite challenging to avoid exceeding the percentage of AI writing in Task 2. As for Task 3, it involves editorial work. Thanks to Mr Vinod's Typography class, the text formatting task really helped, although I somehow forgot some setups to be done before composing. Thankfully, this task helped me to recall the basics of InDesign. This was a meticulous work for me. I put quite some time and effort into ensuring text readability and consistency of the design, but I found the process enjoyable. While the last task was relatively easier compared to other tasks because the content could be derived from our final dissertation.

Reflecting on both Design Research Methodology and Design Research Dissertation modules, I have gained a solid foundation for conducting research. I really learned a lot from being attentive to small details and understanding the structure of research. I also acknowledged the rigorousness of carrying out academic research.  I believe I could have performed better in this module if I had not messed up so much. I will take this as a lesson and learn to manage myself better. Upon profound reflection, I realised my problems and understand that I need to figure out ways to improve. Also, I felt sorry for not being communicative with Dr Yip and causing inconvenience to her. I really appreciate her understanding and support of my situation. It was a relief to complete this research project. :)
