We have learned some basic tools such as the Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, Layering, and Magic Wand Tool through the introduction to Photoshop. These tools are essential for this week's assignment, digital collage design.

TUTORIAL

Mr Fauzi let us watch his tutorial videos about creating digital compositions by using Photoshop. In the videos, he demonstrated using the tools of Photoshop.

We have watched the video about Composition Studies - Digital Collage that was created by Mr Fauzi. In this video, Mr Fauzi demonstrated cropping out the collage elements by using the tools like Pen Tool and Magic Wand. He has shown us the whole process of composing the composition for the digital collage.

PRACTICAL

PROJECT 1: Collage Design

Digital Collage

We were assigned to use Photoshop to create 3 compositions for digital collage using the collage materials provided by Mr Fauzi. Each collage composition should have at least four layers to be a completed digital collage. Mr Fauzi went through the collage elements with us and helped us in determining the suitable tools to use in cropping out the image. I have benefited a lot from this session on using the right tools to improve efficiency when creating compositions.

Final Composition - Project 1: Digital Collage

Mr Fauzi thought that Composition #1 is the best among the three compositions, so I took Composition #1 as my final digital collage.

I created a "space" in my digital composition, by cropping out the sphere-like texture from the collage elements given to indicate the planets in the space with black texture background. I used Pen Tool to crop out the buildings as the path for the little boy going towards the space. The position and arrangement of the buildings lead the viewers' eye towards the largest orang planet. While the little boy has an old projector on his head as a "detector" to use in the space, and a typewriter in his hand that indicates another "probe". In short, my digital composition is about a little boy who is on the way going to exploring mysteries.
